The lone newcomer will be former In- dependent & Free Press photographer Ted Brown, who will take the seat of retiring councillor Joan Robson. Voter turnout was 33.61%-- which was higher than the 25% that voted in the 2010 election. Bonnette cruised to an early victory with a consistent lead of more than 80%. In the end, he garnered 12,253 votes (87%), while challenger Sally Stull received 1,783 votes (12.7 %). "It's a solid mandate from the public and I really appreciate the support I had," said Bonnette. "I am quite humbled by the re- sults." He said he campaigned as much as he could, but that he was still running the "day-to-day" business of the Mayor's office. One of the key issues raised by the public he said was transportation, pointing to the frustration some residents feel commuting out of Georgetown in the mornings, and concerns about dump trucks coming into town. "I want to thank my campaign workers and above all Josey (his wife)," he said. "Democracy is happening," said Stull Monday evening after the results were in. "It's a wonderful process. All the best for Rick in the next four years." "It's way better than acclamation, we have a wonderful opportunity to bring for- ward ideas," said Stull. "The public speaks and democracy is al- ways correct," she said. When asked if she was disappointed, Stull said, "No, we move ahead." It's time t o switch b ack to Standard Time.
