The HHS Board of Directors was recognized for creating an innovative capital project management charter and establishing a unique Capital Planning Advisory Committee that engages stakeholders and community members to oversee the New Oakville Hospital project, which will open in December 2015. The new model, which draws on community expertise and experience, has engaged the community and delivered outstanding value. HHS is now using this model for major future redevelopment projects at Georgetown Hospital and Milton District Hospital. Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) has been awarded the "Exemplar" status for its NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Health system Elders) program, for the second consecutive year. NICHE is an international program designed to help hospitals improve the care of older adults by better understanding and meeting their needs. The "Exemplar" status recognizes HHS' ongoing, high-level commitment to providing exceptional geriatric care throughout its three community hospitals. HHS is currently one of only two healthcare facilities in Canada to achieve this status. Congratulations to the Georgetown Hospital Foundation and their Campaign Cabinet on the tremendous success of their Investing in Care - Close to Home Capital Campaign. At a special event held November 4, the Foundation announced that they had successfully completed the Campaign and, with a generous $100,000 gift from the Harkin family, exceeded their goal by raising over $6.5 million for the Georgetown Hospital Expansion. "It was a thrill to be part of this remarkable Campaign," said K.C. Carruthers, Executive Director of the Georgetown Hospital Foundation. "We are at the successful conclusion of the biggest fund raising campaign in the hospital's history. Literally thousands of local residents and organizations pitched in to make this happen over the past three years and it is heartening to have a local family generously put us over our goal of $6.5 million for better healthcare. Thankfully we live in a generous community that is willing to invest in outstanding care for its exceptional community hospital."
