The way we were YOU LIKE SNOW?: The weather forecast for the holidays is yet uncertain but if we match this winter scene of Main Street, Georgetown from 1910 then it may not be fun. Once again this year, we're all dream- ing of a White Christmas ... but without last year's ice storm! And, we plan to celebrate this wonder- ful season of family, friends, and faith, goodwill, gatherings and gifts. For Christians, Christmas is most of all a celebration of the birth of Christ, the Messiah. In His name, we are called to trust in God, love one another, and care for our neighbour. We are so fortunate to live in this country, where most of us want for little. But for those in our communities who struggle day-to-day, our churches and service organizations are reaching out to help, to ensure the spirit and bless- ings of Christmas are enjoyed by all.  I want to express my sincere thanks to all who are actively involved in helping to make sure everyone in our communi- ties enjoys a Merry Christmas. Please give generously to support their efforts.  ***** A New Year beckons, and my wife Lisa and I are hosting three Family Skates in the month of January. On Sunday, Jan. 11 from 1-2 p.m., we will be getting together at the Elora and District Community Centre, 29 David St., Elora. The following Sunday, on Jan. 18 from 2-3:30 p.m., we are having our Acton Fam- ily Skate at the Acton Arena and Commu- nity Centre, 415 Queen St., Acton. Then, on Sunday, Jan. 25 from 2:15-3:45 p.m., we are having our Georgetown Fam- ily Skate at the Mold-Masters SportsPlex, Ice Pad Fernbrook Homes, 221 Guelph St., Georgetown. Looking forward to seeing you there! ***** While the Ontario Legislature has ad- journed for the Christmas break, I contin- ue to be kept busy in our Wellington-Hal- ton Hills Provincial Riding Office, and at events and meetings in our communities. Additionally, the all-party Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs will be holding pre-budget public hearings from Jan. 20-30, and is expected to travel to Fort Frances, Sudbury, Ottawa, Cornwall, Fort Erie, and London. The Committee will also have hearings in Toronto, as well as ac- cept written submis- sions.  After the hearings are concluded, the Committee writes a report, including recommendations for the Minister of Fi- nance for his upcoming provincial bud- get. These public consultations are an im- portant part of the budget process, and I would encourage interested constituents to avail themselves of the opportunity to participate.
