Council approved the new fees at its Dec. 15 meeting. Some exceptions to the 3 per cent hike in Recreation and Parks include: • Park rental rates have been ad- justed by 0 to 4 per cent to bring the rates in line with the proportional premiums/discounts offered to non-local and youth groups • There will be no increase for hardball lighting and equipment loans due to area market condi- tions • There won't be an increase in the non-local and youth rate for sports fields • The rate for individual ad- mission to recreational skate and swimming have been maintained at the 2014 level to promote par- ticipation. • The pool rental rate, learn to swim and recreation aquatic passes increase by two per cent to continue the Aquatic Users Group rates and fees cost mitigation strat- egies. • Rates are staying at 2014 levels at Hillsview Active Living Centre Georgetown after rates were re- aligned last year. • Rates for the Acton Commu- nity Hall are unchanged Fire rates and service charges are going up 3 per cent, except for open air burning and preventable false alarm offences, which are un- changed. Most building permit fees are going up 1.5 per cent, and gener- ally Planning, Development and Sustainability fees are rising 3 per cent. Some councillors raised con- cerns about the 3 per cent hike, particularly to Parks and Recre- ation fees, and asked why building fees were only 1.5 per cent. Town Treasurer Ed DeSousa said when a user fee study was done a few years ago 3 per cent Most Town fees and service charges to go up on Jan. 1 By Lisa Tallyn ltallyn@theifp.ca Continued on page 24
