So area residents shouldn't be alarmed if they see a group of people with binocu- lars staring into their backyard. Since the early 1900s, citizen scientists have been participating in the Christmas Bird Count that now occurs in thousands of localities throughout the Americas.  This effort contributes to conservation because data from the Count can be used to identify trends in bird populations.  HNPNC would appreciate it if  resi- dents could top up their bird feeders for the event to attract birds and facilitate the census.
