Many of us did not have power; our streets looked like a war zone with fallen trees, branches and hydro lines. Let's hope that this year we don't have another ice storm. As we saw last year, being pre- pared for an emergency is essential. A family emergency survival kit is simple and should be prepared ahead of time. Make sure your family knows where the survival kit is kept. Stock these six basics in your home: water, food, first aid supplies, tools and supplies such as, cloth- ing, bedding and spe- cial items. Have your cell phone charged and cash on hand. Please visit our website for more information on how you can prepare. http://www.haltonhills.ca/fire/ pdf/emergPrepareGuide2007.pdf **** Old Man Winter has arrived and our staff will do their very best to en- sure that the roads are maintained for our safety. Please be patient, as we have over 900 km of roads, 125 km of sidewalks and 25 municipal parking lots to maintain. The sequence of priority for roads is as follows: Regional, arterial and collector roads followed by local streets. **** Enjoy free public skating over Christmas break sponsored by Acton Rotary Club and Halton Hills Opti- mist Club: Acton Arena - Dec. 29, 30 and Jan. 2 from 2 - 3:20 p.m. Mold-Masters - Dec. 30 and Jan. 2 from 2 - 3:20 p.m. **** For all of those Leaf fans, there is a special game on Jan. 4, 2015. The Pro Hockey Heroes will be fac- ing off against the Halton Hills Fire- fighters at Mold-Masters SportsPlex at 1:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling 1-800-516-5810. All proceeds will go to CAShh in Halton Hills. CAShh does wonderful work for the residents and families in our community who are battling cancer. **** I invite everyone to come out to the Acton Winter Car- nival on Jan. 25 at Prospect Park in Acton. Lots of outdoor activities are be- ing planned. This will be a lot of fun for the whole family! Last year was a huge success, we just need snow! **** I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and wish you all the best for the New Year! **** Congratulations to: Uncorked Restaurant on their grand opening in Georgetown. **** Keeping it real!
