Members of the public appointed to serve on a Town Board or Committee provide Council with a variety of diverse perspectives, specialized skills and expertise specific to the mandate of the public body they serve. As a member you represent council and the community, and as well understand and are committed to the Corporation of the Town of Halton Hills' Core Values. The Council for the Corporation of the Town of Halton Hills invites applications from members of the public who are interested in serving on the following committees. THE COMMITTEES: Committee of Adjustment • consists of five (5) citizen members • regular monthly meetings • remuneration of $93.50 for member per meeting (2014 Rate) • to act as a decision-making body which considers applications for minor variances to the Town's Zoning By-laws and applications to sever parcels of land Heritage Halton Hills • consists of eleven (11) members • regular monthly meetings • to act as an advisory body respecting the designation of buildings of historical and architectural interest under the Ontario Heritage Act Halton Hills Public Library Board • consists of eight (8) citizen members, plus two Council representatives • must be able to attend monthly meetings, and dedicate time to Library Board activities • sets policy for the governance of the Library in accordance with the Public Libraries Act. • for additional information regarding the library board please refer to http://www.hhpl.on.ca/ Property Standards Committee • consists of three (3) citizen members • meets on an as needed basis • to act as a decision-making body to hear appeals by property owners regarding Orders to Comply issued under the Town's Property Standards By-law • remuneration is $50 per attendance Site Alteration Committee • consists of four (4) citizen members with farming expertise and/or community related experience • meets on an as needed basis • to act as a decision-making body to hear concerns from Halton Hills residents regarding issues under the Town's Site Alteration By-law Active Transportation Committee • consists of eight (8) citizen members from the business, industry, education, and recreation sector • Act as an advisory committee to provide advice and input to the Town of Halton Hills on matters relating to the design, construction and funding of multi-use and interconnecting trail system, and cycling systems in the Town of Halton Hills • Implement active transportation policies, programs and facilities • Identify issues that impact trail and cycling development in Halton Hills • Strive for streets and trails that provide for safe, convenient, efficient and accessible use by all users - pedestrians of all ages and abilities, people with disabilities, cyclists • Educate and promote the environmental, social, economic and health benefits of active transportation Halton Hills Accessibility Advisory Committee • consists of nine (9) citizen members • regular monthly meetings • acts as an advisory committee to provide advice and input to the Town of Halton Hills to fulfill obligations under the Accessibilities for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. In the new study involving more than 20,000 adolescents, aged 12 to 19, from Up- psala County in Sweden, Amos said that re- searchers from Uppsala University demon- strated that reports of sleep disturbance and habitual short sleep duration (less than seven hours per day) increased the risk of failure in school. Amos said she intends to share with the Halton Catholic board her motion/report that was passed at the Jan. 7 board meeting. The Catholic board is under no obligation to join the public board in a possible change to high school start times, she said. "It can be done without them but it could be done with them. They have different routes; some are the same," she said of Catho- lic board schools busing. "That's all part of the puzzle.
