FROM 8.6 CITY / 6.6 HWY (L/100 KM)ˆLEASE FOR 60 MONTHSΩ. From pg. 1 For 2016, Hyundai has downsized the Sona- ta Hybrid from a 2.4-litre engine to a 2.0-li- tre Nu GDI four-cylinder engine. It is mated with a six-speed automatic transmission. This transmission houses a 38 kW electric motor and clutch that helps the vehicle de- liver similar driving characteristics while im- proving fuel economy because of the bigger electric motor. The Sonata Hybrid is capable of operating on electric power alone, even on the high- way by decoupling the gasoline engine from the drivetrain. The hybrid system's net power is 193 hp, with 154 hp and 140 lb/ft of torque coming from the gas engine and 38 kW (51 hp) and 151 lb/ft of torque from the electric motor. Fuel economy is expected to be 6 L/100 km in the city and 5.2 L/100 km on the high- way for a combined rating of 5.6 L/100 km. Hyundai has also improved this model by placing the 13 per cent smaller battery pack under the trunk floor, thereby allowing for a flat trunk floor and producing 380 litres of cargo space, 10 per cent better than the out- going model. As well, the 60/40 split rear seats can now be folded. Exterior aerodynamics are also been im- proved with the coefficient of drag now at 0.24, which Hyundai say is the same as the Tesla S. Hyundai's plug-in hybrid, meanwhile, is expected to reach up to 35 kilometres in EV mode alone, which Hyundai says is the best among any PHEV intermediate sedans. It will also recharge in as little as two-and- a-half hours with a Level 2 charger and five hours in a standard 120V outlet. The Sonata PHEV will have a 50 kW elec- tric motor in the transmission in place of the WHEELS torque converter, allowing for longer and higher-speed use of EV mode. Like the regu- lar Sonata Hybrid, this car has a 2.0-litre Nu engine that takes over when battery power is depleted. In total, the PHEV system is slightly more powerful than the Sonata Hybrid's, produc- ing a total system output of 202 hp at 6,000 rpm. Hyundai says fuel efficiency is expected to be 6.2/5.5/5.9 L/100km city/highway/ combined. Sonata's engine downsized for 2016 Kia Motors has received prestigious Good Design awards for three of its most recent models, the Kia K900 (known as 'K9' or 'Quoris' in some countries), Soul EV and GT4 Stinger concept car, in the award program's 'Transportation' category. Chosen by the Good Design jury of independent design professionals, industry specialists and design media, the three Kia models were evaluated on a range of criteria - innovative design, new technologies, form, materials, construction, concept, function, utility, energy efficiency and sensitivity to the environment.
