On scene, smoke could be seen coming from the southwest corner of the house from the eaves and chimney. Fire was visible be- hind the soffit above the patio door. The fire was knocked down while crews checked for extension. The homeowner ad- vised fire staff that the chimney was not real but a facade built around the actual chimney. Crews then removed the brick and ply- wood from the surround and found fire from the wood stove to the top of the chimney sur- round. The fire was knocked down quickly and salvage and overhaul began. Crews monitored the interior of the home through- out the fire, checking for extension, with none found, and removing water and debris. The estimated damage is $30,000. IMPAIRED CHARGE A Toronto man is facing charges after a two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 7 about 12:30 p.m. Monday. Police say no one was injured. Charged with impaired driving and having over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood is Gary McGuire, 48. NEWS Girl, 3, dead after rural Milton crash A three-year-old girl has died as a result of a single-vehicle crash in rural Milton Saturday afternoon. The accident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. when the 36-year-old driver of an SUV, travel- ling northbound on Esquesing Line, south of No. 5 Sideroad, lost control of the vehicle. The SUV went into a ditch and struck a hydro pole. The woman, a resident of Milton, had her three-year-old daughter in the vehicle. The girl was found with no vital signs at the scene and both victims were reported to have sus- tained head injuries. "The young girl was rushed to Milton Dis- trict Hospital, but has sadly succumbed to her injuries sustained in the collision," said Det. Constable Chris Heffernen of the Halton Re- gional Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. The woman was treated at hospital for minor injuries. "Blowing snow covered Esquesing Line at the area of the collision, and appears to be a contributing factor to the collision. The occu- pants in the vehicle were both wearing their appropriate safety restraints," said Heffernen. Any witnesses are asked to call Heffernen or Oliver Caves of the Collision Reconstruc- tion Unit at 905-825-4747, ext. 5065.
