Included in the operating budget are the hiring of two new full-time firefight- ers at a cost of $168,500, and an Assistant Deputy Chief ($143,500). The two addi- tional firefighters will result in the imple- mentation of a 24/7 full-time emergency response from the headquarters station. Other items in the budget include a se- nior building inspector ($99,100 funded by permit fee revenue) and facility main- tenance staff (Hillsview Georgetown) ($20,800). Four additional hours each week for the libraries in Georgetown (1 to 5 p.m. Mondays) and Acton (1 to 5 p.m. Sundays during the school year) was ap- proved at a cost of $20,100. The hiring on an interim basis of a Pol- icy Advisor to the CAO was put forward by Regional Councillor Clark Somerville for inclusion in the 2015 budget. The $133,500 salary was to be paid using the expected $45,000 in fuel savings from lower oil costs and various funding sources. The position was to be evaluated before including it in the 2016 budget. However, council members weren't eager to support Somerville's motion say- ing they wanted specific information on where the money would come from to pay the salary and a more detailed job de- scription. After hearing the concerns Somerville withdrew the motion saying, "I don't think this is going to fly." He then put forward another motion, which was supported by committee mem- bers, referring the matter to the Corporate Affairs Committee for a report from the CAO. Patricia Farley of Architectural Con- servancy of Ontario-Halton Hills asked budget committee to include the hiring of a heritage planner in the budget, but that wasn't supported.
