Effective February 2015 to March 2016, it includes a full schedule for Blue Box, GreenCart, garbage, bulk waste and yard waste collection, as well as useful information on sorting waste and the HaltonWaste Management Site. It also contains essential information on the Region and its programs and services, tips on emergency preparedness and information on how to access Halton. HOUSE FIRE At 9:42 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29, fire crews responded to the report of a structure fire on Somerville Rd. in Ac- ton. Upon arrival staff met with the homeowner who advised that no one was in the residence and there was fire at the rear of the house. Fire staff went to the rear of the structure to perform a fire attack. Fire staff also entered the attic and water was applied to this area to extinguish the fire there. A preliminary estimate of loss to structure and con- tents is $120,000 with cause determined to be improp- er storage of a combustible. DOG RESCUE At 4:26 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, firefighters respond- ed to a public assist on Winston Churchill Blvd. south of 27 Sideroad for the report of a dog through the ice. On scene, staff noticed the dog in the water with his head and front paws on the ice and the lower half of its body in the water. The dog was about 50 feet from the shore and had fallen in at an open spot in the ice on the river. Fire staff set up a four-man rescue team in dry suits and with the use of the water rescue craft went out on the ice and pulled the dog onto the water rescue craft. The team was then pulled back to shore by the rest of the crew. The owner advised that he would take the dog to his vet to have him checked over. PEDESTRIANS STRUCK BY VEHICLES At 12:49 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, firefighters responded to the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the area of Guelph St. and Sinclair Ave. Hal- ton Regional Police and ambulance were on the scene upon arrival and HHFD's services were not required. On Friday, Jan. 30, Halton Hills Fire Department responded to two calls about pedestrians struck by ve- hicles. At 3:19 p.m., HHFD responded to an ambulance as- sist for the report of a pedestrian struck by a car in the area of Windsor Rd. and Guelph St. On scene staff were advised they were not required, however remained on scene as a blocker vehicle until the ambulance cleared. At 4 p.m., firefighters responded to an ambulance assist for the report of a pedestrian struck by a car in the area of Willow St. S. and Mill St. E. in Acton. Staff arrived on scene and were advised they were not re- quired. No further details on the conditions of the pedestri- ans were available. MYSTERY ALARM At 10:24 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, HHFD responded to an alarm activation on Stewart MacLaren Rd. On scene staff could hear the smoke alarms going off in the empty row house unit. Staff checked in all the windows and could see no sign of smoke or fire. Staff contacted the real estate company that is selling the home but could not get a hold of anyone to respond and open the door.
