Lend MeYour Ears We care about your hearing! Professional Arts Building 99 Sinclair Ave., Suite 210, Georgetown 905-873-6642 Serving the community of Halton Hills and surrounding areas since 1992 The Georgetown Exposure to cigarette smoke may hasten hearing loss as you grow older. Monitoring more than 3,500 people between the ages 48 and 92 for 3 years, University of Wisconsin Medical School researchers found that smokers were almost twice as likely as non-smokers to have trouble hearing. Some scientists think cigarette smoke has a toxic effect on inner-ear cells, while others believe it may constrict blood flow to the inner ear. Vivian Hicks, 11, has been dream- ing of being part of the talented group since she was seven, and has tried out three times. She auditioned for the K-Tel creative team in January at a dance studio in Toronto. "At that audition the kids took part in both a dance call, where they learn steps and perform them for the creative team and a vocal call, where they sing one or two prepared pop songs," said Stephanie West, Produc- er/Director of Mini Pop Kids. A week later Vivian got the good news. "We chose Vivian because she is one of few equally talented singers and dancers," said West. "She is full of fun energy and though she is only 11, approaches this opportunity with utmost professionalism. We are very lucky to have her and can't wait to watch her continue to grow." Vivian is thrilled to be a Mini Pop Kid. "I can't believe it. Is this real?" asked Vivian. "This was always my dream and goal." Her mom Alley says Vivian "feels blessed to work with such talented kids, choreographers and vocal coaches." Vivian, a Grade 6 Holy Cross Catholic School student, will be re- cording an album with the group, making a commercial next year and performing in various shows. She will stay with the group until she's 14. She rehearses two to three times a week, three to four hours each ses- sion and is with Stars Academy in Burlington and dances at the Cana- dian Dance Company. Vivian has performed in various locations including St. Andrew's United Church, hospital fundrais- ers, at Inspire Halton and at the To- ronto Zoo New Year's Bash. Upcoming performances of the Mini Pop Kids will be Monday, Feb. 16, 2 p.m. in Barrie (tickets at http:// goo.gl/DtN2wT); Sunday, Feb. 22 4 p.m. in Hamilton http://goo. gl/4Sor98 and Sat., March 28, 2 p.m. in Ottawa http://goo.gl/M0ERPe or go to https://www.facebook.com/ minipopkids to find links to tickets.
