With seven games remaining in the regular season to be played over an 11-day stretch beginning at home Wednesday against Oran- geville, the 34-5-3-5 Raiders edged the Cobourg Cougars 3-2 at home on Saturday night and followed that up with a 2-1 victory Sunday in Whitby against another East Divi- sion club, the Fury. Defenceman Eric Eustace deliv- ered the winning marker Saturday against the Cougars after Brendan Jacome and Josh Dickinson had given the hosts a 2-1 lead heading into the final frame. Marc Williams made 20 saves for the W in goal in front of 230 spectators at the Alcott Arena. On Sunday afternoon, John Ad- ams tallied twice in the third period, including the clincher with just un- der seven minutes left in regulation, for the Raiders' eighth-straight win. Winning netminder Jack LaFon- taine made 30 saves. This weekend, the Raiders visit Burlington Friday, host the New- market Hurricanes Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and travel to Toronto to face the Jr. Canadiens Sunday evening. Georgetown secured top spot in the OJHL's South/West Conference last week and can still catch the 40-7-0-3 Aurora Tigers for top spot overall. Eight not enough for Raiders Members of the Georgetown Jr. A Raiders have again thrown their support behind the Mayor Bon- nette Bowl for Kids Sake tournament, which is set to roll on Sunday, Feb. 22 at Georgetown Bowl. The annual fundraiser will see players and staff of the Ontario Junior Hockey League club trade in their pucks for pins for the afternoon, but for two brothers on the team, their involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton won't end when they depart the bowling alley. Third-year Raider Richard Court has been a Big Brother for the past couple of years to now 11-year- old Caleb of Milton and with 20-year-old Richard headed off to Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. in the fall, his younger brother Andrew will take over the primary Big Brother role to Caleb during the summer in a new initiative by the organization called Family Match. Eighteen-year-old Andrew will also serve as the Raiders' Big Brother liaison for 2015, having rounded up seven teams of his mates for the Feb. 22 tournament. They've set a goal of raising more than $5,500 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton. That's almost one half of the total amount raised at last year's tournament and Mayor Bonnette would like to see the 2015 event raise $14,000, with all of those funds staying in Halton Hills to support the program. There are currently 62 matches for Little Broth- ers & Sisters in this area and an additional 28 on the waiting list, along with 64 children in the Home- work Club and 18 in the Go Girls/Game On pro- gram. "It's competitive for some of the teams. They come out with their fancy uniforms or shirts and it's a fun afternoon," said Bonnette. "Some of the real estate companies are really serious about it. But the big winners are the Little Brothers & Sisters." The OJHL's leading scorer throughout most of the regular season finally captured the monthly award after being named runner-up twice al- ready this season (September and December). The 20-year-old Mississauga native's month included 10 goals and 12 assists in lead- ing the Raiders to a 9-1 record to clinch their first West Division title since 2012. The 5-foot- 11, 170-pound centre notched a pair of four point games, a trifecta of three point games and had seven multi-point outings, along with firing three game-winners of which two came during important divisional one goal victories. This marks the second time Hladin has been named Player-of-the-Month, having also won the award in October of 2013. "I'd like to thank the OJHL for this award," said Hladin upon hearing of the honour. "Our season in Georgetown has been great. We knew we were going to have a strong team go- ing into the season and I think we have done a good job of proving that. Our goal is to win a championship and we believe we have the team to accomplish that. It is an exciting time with playoffs right around the corner, especial- ly with so many teams having great seasons." Hladin named player of the month
