Swimming Sponsored by March 16 to 20 www.haltonhills.ca /recandparks Monday Skate Sponsored by Concert to benefit SKETCH SKETCH is a community-arts-development initiative based in Toronto engaging young people homeless and on the margins, ages 16-29, from across Canada. SKETCH has established a bursary in the victims' names that will be given out yearly, with an inaugural fundraising goal set at $2,000. "SKETCH was definitely our charity of choice," said Jordan's mother Linda, who said that the fam- ily would also celebrate Jordan's 24th birthday with a family dinner on Friday. "Jordan had worked at a homeless shelter and all three of them were in- volved with photography or drawing." Ironically, SKETCH was founded by Phyllis Novak, the first cousin of Katie's mother Susan, who died of cancer in 2011. Jordan's older brother Aaron had heard about SKETCH on the radio and suggested that would be an appropriate charity, unaware of the family connection to one of the victims. "It still gives me goose bumps thinking about it now," added Linda. "(SKETCH) just seemed to be the perfect fit." SKETCH has also proposed putting on an art show in August that would feature photographs of the three fire victims, with funds raised going to the bursary. Because Boyer, Charron and Graham spent a lot of time in the downtown area of George- town, friends Zach Langlois and Dan Thrush ap- proached the Business Improvement Area about establishing a meeting place in their memory. Langlois, an artist, created an artwork whose sale provided funds for the bench memorial. The BIA also sponsored the installation of the bench, as it has with other memorials throughout the munici- pality. Saturday's benefit concert will be recorded and CDs are going to be made available for sale to benefit SKETCH, said Jordan's 16-year-old brother Cameron, the organizer of Saturday's benefit con- cert along with Doug Sinclair of Pine Cone Music. The bands appearing are Hamilton's Katie Bul- ley, locally-based Dayfoot, Half Beat and the DJ is 40 Fathoms, who is Alysia Graham's brother Aus- tin. "My hopes for the show are that people who didn't know Jordan or Katie or Alysia could still come to this and just listen to good music," Cam- eron said. To purchase tickets for the 19 & older event, which are $20 each, or to donate items for the silent auction, visit Pine Cone Music at 360 Guelph St. or contact Cameron Boyer at 905-691-5937 or email cameronmboyer@gmail.com Continued from page 23 The best way to fi nd your next used car.
