Letters policy Community has been defined as a group of people living in the same place or having a particular character- istic in common; a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals. A picture of Halton Hills should be beside this defini- tion in the dictionary, because day in and day out, the citizens of this town embody the word "community." There's no better example of this town's great sense of community than the myriad of volunteers who strengthen it. Halton Hills's volunteers serve on boards and com- mittees, mentor peers, organize cultural and recreation- al activities, support the elderly, provide shelter, counsel youth, clean parks, coach teams, read to children, and so much more. Volunteers do the work they do because they believe in causes, equal opportunities, clean, healthy and safe community spaces, active living and helping others. National Volunteer Week (April 12 to 18) -- dedicat- ed to honouring and recognizing those who donate their time and energy to their fellow citizens -- is fast approaching. Volunteer Halton, a program of Community Development Halton, is reaching out to non-profit, vol- untary and grassroots organizations to nominate deserving individuals in its search for volunteers to honour. Nominees are sought for Cheers to Volunteers and Community Volunteer awards. The Cheers to Volunteers Award recognizes the important contribution volunteers make to an organi- zation. Three recipients from each of the four Halton communities (Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville) will be selected through a random draw. The Community Volunteer Award recognizes an individual volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution. One recipient from each Halton commu- nity will be selected based on the volunteer's impact. Nominations are also sought for the Walter Mulkewich Community Development Award, which recognizes the collective contribution of a group of people working co-operatively toward positive change. The nomination deadline is Friday, Mar. 20. Online nominations are now open and forms can be found at www.volunteerhalton.ca. Here's the chance to truly recognize those in the community who make a difference in the lives of many in this town. Many people tell us 'I don't care for Stephen Harper but we have Michael Chong and Mi- chael Chong is an honourable man.' Harper is using the most deplorable kind of war and fear-mongering to put himself over the top. Is Michael Chong speaking out? No. But as we know Michael Chong is an hon- ourable man? Sheila Cunny I (recently) had the great pleasure of attend- ing a performance by five very accomplished musicians in the Helson Gallery. The performance was hosted by Bill Mc- Bride, whose fine voice and the magic he produces from his violin have made him well known in Georgetown. His four buddies and Bill delighted the audience with a popular program of music chosen to suit all tastes. I understand that more musical after- noons such as this are being planned and urge everyone with an hour to spare on a Saturday afternoon to pop in and enjoy the music. Maureen Walker On February 24th between 3-4:30 p.m. my coat was stolen from Good Life Fitness Lock- er Room (Superstore) location. In the pocket of my coat were a set of keys. It is very sad that someone could leave me stranded without a coat or car on one of the coldest days of the year. A big thank you to Collette (a stranger) who drove me home. I have filed a police report and reported OPINION Karma will get you in the end More concerts please Thank you CAShh this to Loss Prevention at the Superstore. Remember what goes around, comes around - KARMA! Sharon Beesley In memory of Anne Benest-Rogers-Sidebot- tom Our family would like to thank CAShh and the volunteers for all the help they gave us the past seven months during our journey. It was greatly appreciated by us. CAShh was always there when we need- ed them as they do with everyone that need help in the community during their journey. CAShh raises funds through donations and fundraisers throughout the year from the community and the funds raised stay in the community helping those that need help. Once again their campaign starts in April and canvassers will be calling, so find it in your heart to give a little as all is greatly ap- preciated by CAShh so they can continue to help those travelling the long stressful jour- ney. Thank you from all the family members of the Kaczor, Benest, Sidebottom families Robert Kaczor Georgetown
