A person driving by reported to police that a male was seen coming out of the church with a small box about 1:25 a.m. The male is described as black, about 6 ft., with a medium build and wearing a black sweater. The front door of the church had been pried open. Taken was about $20 worth of chocolate bars and packages of noodles. Halton Hills firefighters were called out to a couple of grass fires last week. On Monday (March 30) about 6:15 p.m. they responded to Tenth Line, north of Steeles Ave. On scene crews found a small grass fire behind the house. Staff walked back with shovels and ex- tinguished the fire. About 12:20 p.m. Tuesday they were called to a grass fire on Park Ave. in Acton. When they arrived smoke could be seen in the back- yard. Upon entering the yard they found the fence between the two properties was smok- ing. The homeowner had tried to extinguish the fire. Crews applied water and proceeded with an overhaul of the fence. The homeowner admitted that they had lit papers on fire using a lighter in a cooking pot on their deck. When adding gasoline to the fire the gas can ignited. The homeowner proceeded to throw the can against the fence, resulting in the fire. The procedure to obtain a burn permit was explained to the homeowner along with safe burning practices. •••••• Firefighters were called to a public assist at a home on Regional Rd. 25, north of 10 Sidero- ad about 10:50 p.m. Tuesday (March 31). On scene, crews met with the landlord, who was concerned a tenant had left the home with a candle burning in the front window near a curtain and didn't want to enter the home to put it out. The landlord unlocked the door and fire staff entered to extinguish the candle and ensure the smoke detector was connected. •••••• About 3:30 p.m. Tuesday (March 31) fire- fighters were called to a two-vehicle collision at Alcott Dr. and Guelph St. Police and am- bulance personnel were already there. Fire crews ensured the vehicles were secure and cleared the scene. Firefighters put out grass fires
