Farley also said Mattamy should make restitu- tion to the residents of Halton Hills for the loss of this "landmark" by making a substantial donation to the Heritage Foundation of Halton Hills. "The very feature why it was designated has in fact been destroyed," said Townsend, adding the structural analysis shows it would be impossible to reconstruct or relocate the home, and there is not enough support in the remainder of the building or its roof. Townsend said an aborist has looked at the trees on the property-- there are nine chestnut trees-- and they are not heritage in character and should not be designated or listed on the Heritage Register. She said it will be determined during the subdivision planning process if some of the trees could be saved. In regard to Farley's suggestion Mattamy Homes make a donation to the Heritage Founda- tion, Townsend said the company gave Habitat for Humanity $200,000 in connection with its pur- chase of the Exchange Hotel property "as a conse- quence of losing the building on the Eighth Line in an effort to try to contribute towards heritage in Halton Hills." She confirmed Mattamy has agreed to save the bricks and salvage other materials from the home for future use by the Town. After hearing from both delegations Council supported removing the home from the Heritage Register to allow for demolition. THE REED HOME ON EIGHTH LINE
