Submitted photo Decades of service Volunteers are vital to the ALC On Tuesday, April 7 the Town of Halton Hills held a Volunteer Appreciation Event for all the volunteers who participate at both Acton and Georgetown's Hillsview Active Living Centres. It was held in the recently renovated Acton Centre and Wendy Krever and Terri Forbes took the opportunity to dress appro- priately in construction attire to commemo- rate the past construction at the Acton Cen- tre and the anticipated construction at the Georgetown Centre. There are at present a total of 244 volun- teers who help make the two Centres friend- ly, vibrant and interesting places to visit. 128 volunteers attended the celebration. Some people volunteer a couple of hours every week, some once a month, others whatever time commitment they feel comfortable with. Five members volunteered over 500 hours during 2014 and received recognition for that milestone. Joan Mason, Florence Riehl and Ellie Tyndall from Georgetown and Wilda Tressel and Julie Conroy from Ac- ton. Not every volunteer is a member of the Centre and we appreciate their help also. If you feel you would like to volunteer and are a member or just someone who is interest- ed, please call either Centre or leave a mes- sage for Heather Beaumont. By Julie Conroy Hillsview Active Living Centre- Acton Volunteers are urgently needed for the Canadian Cancer Society Daffodil Pin Campaign, April 16-19! Daffodil Month, held ev- ery April, is a national fun- draising campaign of the Canadian Cancer Society. This April, by volunteering just a few hours of your time selling daffodil pins at local grocery and retail businesses in support of our Daffodil Month campaign you will be saving lives and helping people who are living with cancer. Shifts are two hours and you can sign up for one or more to sell daffodil pins for a donation in Bur- lington, Georgetown, Milton, and Oakville. This is a fantastic way for students to get their community hours. The CCS is also looking for adult volunteers to be site coordi- nators at various locations for two to four days. If you're interested in volun- teering, please contact the Halton community office at 905-845-5231 or go to www.halton.myccssched- ule.ca and sign up online to sell daffodil pins.
