Thank you for your time, energy and compassion. An act of volunteerism is like a stone thrown in a lake. Not only does it have a direct impact, but like ripples, a volunteer's efforts reach far and wide to improve communities. Undeni- ably, volunteers rock. Volunteers make our community healthier by strengthening our orga- nizations, mentoring our children and creating a more resilient and inclu- sive society. **** As part of the Town of Halton Hills' annual compliance require- ments to the Ontario Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, the Town held an emergency plan- ning exercise on March 30. The emergency exercise was a sim- ulation of a multi-car train derailment occurring on the rail corridor running through Georgetown with a leak of dangerous goods. The event was a combination of live and tabletop exercise. Fire, EMS, Po- lice and Council were all part of this exercise. We have had many Emergency Planning Exercises over the years from large fires, tornadoes, plane crashes etc. We must be prepared with an at- titude of 'not if a disaster strikes, but when.' **** Cancer Assistance Services of Hal- ton Hills (CAShh) needs your help with this year's "Give Where You Live" campaign from now until the end of April. All of the funds raised for CAShh remain in Halton Hills and are used to provide practical services at no charge to Halton Hills residents who are living with a cancer diagnosis. If you would like to volun- teer, please contact Mar- ilyn Inglis at the CAShh office, 905-702-8886. **** April is also Daffodil Month for the Canadian Cancer Society. During April, vol- unteers raise funds for the fight against cancer. Money raised during Daffodil Month helps lo- cal patients living with cancer and their fami- lies. **** Congratulations to Constable Lau- rel Barnett, Halton Hills Community Support Officer, on her upcoming re- tirement. Thank you for serving our commu- nity. Wishing you all the best. **** If you're near the Civic Centre, be sure to check out some of the stun- ning PhotoArt competition winners from the Halton Hills Camera Club. **** Keeping it real!
