For more information please call… COMMUNITY Paul Murr Golf Tournament seeks sponors, golfers The 31st-annual Paul Murr Memorial Golf Tournament will take place at Blue Springs Golf Club on Monday, May 11 with all proceeds donated to Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) general research and the CAShh hospice project. Last year was a special year for the event as the Tournament surpassed $1 million in donations to the Acton Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society. A significant amount of our revenue is raised by the generous support of business and private sponsorships and three levels of sponsorships - Platinum ($1000 or more), Gold ($500) and Sil- ver ($200). These donations can also be made in the form of an In Memoriam recognizing loved ones. Regarding golf, there are three pack- ages to accommodate all participants: • 7:30 a.m. Turtle Lake tee off ($200) includes continental breakfast, driving range privileges, 18 holes scramble golf with power cart, buffet lunch, afternoon access to Trillium par 3 course, prime rib dinner and table prizes. For further information contact RM Construction at 519-853-0395 or email paulmur- rgolf@gmail.com Cancer Society honours Paul Murr Golf Tournament On April 22, the Canadian Cancer Soci- ety awarded the Community Achieve- ment Impact Award to the Paul Murr Memorial Golf Tournament held an- nually in Acton. On hand to collect the award in person on behalf of the com- mittee were founding member Jon Hurst and current event chair Allan Hall. Com- mittee members include Bev Mattocks, Susan Rauwerda, John McNabb, Wade Vickery, Ron Heller, George McPhail, Bill Manes, Tim Ware, Luke Vandermeer, and Fred Reinders. Only one award is given out each year across Canada. The award recognizes an independent or third-party group that has initiated or championed a fundrais- ing event in an innovative or unique way resulting in a significant financial con- tribution and, in the process, has devel- oped a sustainable event. The golf tournament originated in 1985 and was called The Acton Cancer Society Golf Tournament, to raise funds for the Acton Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society. Paul Murr, one of four founding committee members, was di- agnosed with cancer in 1988, and before his passing, the tournament was named in his honour. It has raised over $1 mil- lion for cancer research.
