Between the competition and other fundraising within the school, more than $30,000 was rounded up for Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, which turned out to be about $20,000 more than organizers had hoped to raise. This year's competition was spread over two days for the first time, drawing eight schools, including host CtK and Georgetown District, along with en- tries from Clarington, Barrie, Mississauga, Milton, Oakville and Maple. The Dancers for Cancer Foundation recently set a goal of raising $1 million for Sick Kids Hospital, with the funds earmarked to renovate Marnie's Studio and the Child Life Programming Fund. Photo by Eamonn Maher CtK event raises $30,000 Town councillor Mike O'Leary dies Longtime local councillor Mike O'Leary has died. The Acton man, who had served as the Ward 1 (Acton) Halton Hills councillor since 2003, passed away Wednesday at Georgetown Hospital following a brief illness. He was 70. "On behalf of Town Council, I offer sincere condolences to Mike's fam- ily and friends," said Mayor Rick Bon- nette. "Mike loved this community. He served with dignity and passion and was very well liked. He will be missed." O'Leary was first elected to Coun- cil in 2003, was acclaimed in 2006 and 2010 and won re-election in 2014. Before entering politics O'Leary had a lengthy business career. He was national sales manager for Hallmark Canada where he was in charge of market development. He later oper- ated his own business for more than 20 years. "Mike enjoyed a successful career in business and he brought that ex- perience and perspective to Council. He had an appreciation for the value of a dollar, which is why he was always careful with taxpayers' money," said Bonnette.
