Concerned for his safety, a kind lady took him in and when no one was searching for him, surrendered him to NHKR. He was a typical year-old stray male-- malnour- ished, scruffy and un-neutered. Life for Casper changed dramati- cally when he entered foster care. He is neutered, well-fed, his short coat glistens and his foster family adores him! Casper remembers his days outdoors and enjoys watch- ing birds and squirrels from his climber. Occasionally he will es- cape out the door but never far and he always comes back. He is a good candidate for a leash and harness for some safe outdoor play time. Although he undoubtedly enjoyed aspects of the great out- doors, Casper is clean with his litter box, never has accidents in the house and uses his scratcher. His first love is playing. Casper even plays with the foster family's rabbit, (the dog is still trying to decide what's going on) and the children have learned Casper loves chasing string toys. He en- joys interacting with people: riding on shoulders is one of his favourite activities, he allows children to pick him up and he views new people as poten- tial friends. Handling him is no problem even for nail trimming. When he's had enough household commotion and needs a power nap he curls up out of reach on top of his cat climber. Recharged, he's ready to hang out with the dog looking out the window or visiting the rabbit in its cage or perhaps the children will play again. He is too busy to be a lap cat until it's the end of a busy day, then a comfortable lap will lure him or maybe a location on the bottom of the bed. Casper would thrive in a home with active people and he would be a great playmate for other pets. Casper and Neve are available for adoption at Pet Valu, 369 Mountainview Rd. By Barb Johnson info@nhkr.ca Sisters Candy and Cookie are treats Socks is a handsome black and white cat with the proverbial four white socks! Surrendered in November last year, Socks has been in resi- dence for six months. Settling into Shelter life has not been an easy journey for Socks; he found it traumatic; he was extremely nervous and scared to the point that he spent his days huddling in the back of his cage. He felt if he was hidden he was safe; socialization with the other cats was out of the question. Socks is not in any way feral, he just was not socialized properly as a kitten. Unfortunately this has meant that Socks was not seen by prospective adopters as other cats fussed and preened for attention. However, Staff are de- lighted to report that in the last few weeks Socks is coming out of his shell; leaving his cage, ex- ploring the room and even playing with toy mice and toys. Socks is more relaxed with Staff and a huge step forward he is letting the public meet and interact with him. Socks should be placed in a quieter adult home as he would be frightened easily by chil- drens' enthusiasm. Socks is now used to deal- ing with other cats so a resident cat who could show him the ropes would be fine. Dogs would not be a good match. Socks should continue to blossom when rehomed and is used to this new change. Inter- ested families please call the Shelter at 519-833- 2287 or e-mail adoptions at adoptions@upper- credit.com to meet Socks. He has now emerged from his shell and likes to be petted, playing and is fine with other cats. Let's give Hansel a fairy tale ending-- 519-833-2287.
