The ceremo- nies marked the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe and Canada's important military role in the Allied efforts. The Candlelight Tribute is a symbolic passing of the torch of remembrance in honour of those who served in the cause of peace and freedom. It might have been a bit of a breach in protocol, but Grade 1 Glen Williams Public School student Rhoenin Downes couldn't help but give his grandfather and veteran Clay Downes a big hug during the Candlelight Tribute ceremony last Thursday afternoon at the Glen Wil- liams Cenotaph.
