STUDENT EXCELLENCE Sydney Hayward Acton High School Sydney, a Grade 11, student is a hardworking, energetic, and compassionate student who is a contributing member of the Safe School Action Team and is cur- rently the president of the Acton High School Student Council. In the role of Bearcat Crew Leader, she takes on a strong leadership role in planning and execut- ing monthly activities which are both engaging and inclusive to all Grade 9 students. Greg Litster Christ the King Catholic High School Greg has had a tremendous posi- tive in� uence on our Catholic school community over the past four years. He is faith-� lled individual who excels academically, socially and athletically. Halton Catholic District School Board held its 27th Annual Student Awards of Excellence Ceremony last month, paying tribute to student recipients of both the Student Awards of Excellence and the Spirit of Inclusion Awards. "As a Catholic school district, our core values speak of our aspiration to be models of Christ through our actions of love, forgiveness, compassion, and accep- tance," said Director of Education, Paula Dawson, in her address. "Tonight we recognize those students in our Board who, through their daily actions and interac- tions with members of their school communities, have brought our values to life!" � e Student Award of Excellence is presented annu- ally to a student from each elementary and secondary school who has demonstrated outstanding qualities in: Catholic leadership, family commitment, involvement in school a� airs and community activities, as well as dedication to a di� cult situation or task. � e Spirit of Inclusion Award was created by the Board's Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC), and is presented each year to one elementary student and one secondary student who has demonstrated an excellent attitude and spirit in dealing with challenges, has made others feel valued and included as unique individuals with a contribution to make to the com- munity, has demonstrated a commitment to school ac- tivities, and is involved in the spiritual life of the school. Recipients of this award may or may not receive special education services. ****** In celebration of Education Week from May 4-8, stu- dents representing each of the Halton District School Board's elementary and secondary schools were hon- oured at the 31st annual Celebration of Student Excel- lence on May 7. Students were recognized for demonstrating out- standing qualities in more than one of the following ar- eas: academic, vocational, athletic, self-improvement, community work, citizenship and student leadership. Each elementary and secondary public school within the Halton District School Board nominates one of their students for this recognition. "� ese recipients represent the high degree of stu- dent achievement in academics, athletics, school and community services, and leadership," said David Euale, Director of Education for the Halton District School Board. Ricky Rivers-Brown Georgetown High School I nominated Ricky, a Grade 12 student, because I feel no student has improved as much as he has over the course of his high school career. He has ex- celled tremendously in all cur- riculum expectations and has gone beyond what we expect of a Centre student in all areas including his vocational studies. He is a pleasant, extremely hard working and caring young man who has overcome many challenges. Ricky is in his � - nal year in the Centre Program.
