Mold-Masters SportsPlex was the site of Thursday's inspection, with HRPS officers scoping out Guelph St. looking for suspect vehicles to pull over for a safety check. It can take 30-40 minutes to thor- oughly examine a large-size truck and after several hours, members of the HRPS Commercial Motor Vehi- cles Unit inspected 21 vehicles, took 17 of them out of service and laid 66 charges in total. On Friday at the Milton Sports Centre on Derry Rd., 25 vehicles were checked, 17 pulled out of service and 83 charges were laid. HRPS Sgt. Paul Rudall said that due to persistent complaints of dan- gerous-looking vehicles from the public, the Towns of Halton Hills and Milton have each purchased two por- table weigh scales for the Commer- cial Motor Vehicles Unit to be in op- eration shortly for future inspections. 81% failure rate in latest truck inspection blitz Constables Jeff Sandifer (left) and Scott Oldfield didn't give a passing grade to a cube van driver whose right rear dual tires had one flat and another with several bulges on its outside wall, indicating that it was close to blowing out.
