This community event was sponsored by Alcoa and TD Friends of the Environment (TDFEF). "There are many benefits of maintaining natural spaces in our communities," said Mike Puddister, Deputy CAO and Director of Watershed Transformation for CVC. "Native shrubs add visual appeal to the landscape while reducing pollution and improving water quality. This is why community planting events are so important for locations such as Fairy Lake." Natural vegetation acts as a filter that absorbs contaminants and residue from the lands adjacent to water bodies. Planting shrubs along the shore- line is a good alternative to trees because it offers the same natural benefits, while maintaining the visual sightlines of the lake for the community to enjoy.
