The Town of Halton Hills is working on re-design- ing the playground features in Prospect Park and local residents can help by filling out an online sur- vey before July 12. Proposed features include: Accessible pathway from parking lot, ramp to access playground area, rubber surfacing around Spinmee, engineered wood fibre safety surfacing and universal transfer station with safety rails to promote accessibility of equipment. The new playground equipment will be located in the same corner of the park as existing equip- ment and no trees are planned to be removed as a result of the works. The four belt swings by the Bandshell will remain and the sand beneath them will be upgraded to engineered wood fiber to meet current safety standards. To participate in the survey go to https://www. surveymonkey.com/r/prospectpark Local resident Annetrista Absalom has been promoting the awareness of children with special needs. She has recently received her Educational Assistant diplma at Sheridan Colleg and has pub- lished a children's book, We Are More Alike Than We Are Different. The book promotes the indepen- dent spirit of special needs kids while at play. At Monday's council meeting, Absalom pre- sented Mayor Rick Bonnette with $5,000, proceeds from her book as a contribution to the wheelchair accessible playground. Town staff and Absalom have been working together to find playground equipment that is spe- cifically designed for those in a wheelchair. A new playground element, called Spinmee, has been found and will be the first installed in Canada in the new re-design of the Prospect Park playground. "We are grateful for her (Absalom) role as an advocate for children with special needs," said Mayor Rick Bonnette when introducing Absalom at the council meeting, "and are pleased to ac- knowledge her dedication and passion for raising funds for the playground."
