COMMENT The way we were Tammy Lambert recently demonstrated her Georgetown Creelman Sock Knitting Machine at the Georgetown Farmers' Market. She is mak- ing socks using this antique machine. Lambert attends gatherings called "crank-ins" where a group of people with these machines get together. Three quarters of the attendees has a machine manufactured by Creelman -- either under the company name of Creelman, Co- operative Knitting Machine Company, Harley- Kay-Marsland, Auto Knitter in Toronto and New York, or PT Legere in Quebec. Left is is a picture of her "Money Maker" machine, which is an early (rare to find) production. From the 1880s to the 1930s the Creelman Brothers produced in a factory on Main St. in Georgetown knitting machines that were famous in factories and homes around the world. One home machine, called The Banner, could make 24-36 pairs of rib socks by hand power or 36 to 48 pairs of rib socks by electric power in 10 hours. Equipped with its own stand, the machine sold for $90. Back in action Photographer Ross Pezzack spotted a local farmer at work haying in a 15 Sideroad field. It's prime time for haying right now. Excitement is beginning to build as we get closer to the start of the 2015 Pan Am/ Parapan Am Games. With the Town of Milton as official host of cycling events during the games, there will be lots of activity happening here in Halton and lots of visitors to our great region. Halton is ready. We've been work- ing closely with the town and the TO2015 organizers on areas includ- ing transportation, paramedic services, public health and emergency plan- ning. We are com- mitted to ensuring the Pan Am/Parapan Am Games in Halton will be safe, fun and successful for everyone in- volved, including our resi- dents. Halton Region is already known as the Home to Cy- cling in Ontario and that's why we're thrilled the Games' cycling events will take place at the new Mattamy National Cycling Centre (which will be known as the Cisco Mil- ton Pan Am Parapan Am Velodrome throughout the games). This state-of-the-art Ve- lodrome adds to our already significant offering for cy- clists, from biking along the waterfront to our vast net- work of trails and rural routes, and beautiful yet challenging routes on the Niagara Escarp- ment. There is something for all levels of cyclist here in Halton. The Town of Milton is also offering a number of com- munity events in the coming weeks under their "Milton Ramps it Up" campaign. They will be offering a hub viewing station, fan stands and cy- cling trading cards. The Town is looking forward to welcom- ing visitors to the community. We also look for- ward to welcom- ing athletes, their families, and tourists to enjoy the variety of great dining es- tablishments and other tour- ist attractions Halton has to offer. We hope they will also taste some of our fresh local food from our farmers and farmer's markets throughout the region. We hope you will join in the excitement of the games. Remember that traffic throughout the region will be busier than usual, so please plan ahead.
