This vehicle will be the primary response unit from the Fire Department's Headquar- ters station, located at the Eighth Line and 10 Sideroad and comes at a cost of $496,000. "Now all three of our stations are equipped in the same way and they each have as their first (vehicle) out a pump rescue," said Depu- ty Chief of Operations John Martin. "They're all laid out the same, so the firefighters can go to any station in any of the trucks and they'll find the same piece of equipment in the same compartment." The pump/rescue design serves a dual purpose incorporating the firefighting capa- bilities of basic pumping apparatus with in- creased storage capacity for ancillary equip- ment found on heavy rescue vehicles. The new pump/rescue replaces a 1994 ve- hicle that was the busiest of the fleet, Martin noted and the old truck has been declared as surplus.
