Bob Jefferies of Acton has been select- ed by the Province of Ontario as Halton Hills Senior of the Year. The award was presented to Jeffer- ies at the June 22nd council meeting-- June is Seniors Month. Jefferies is a regular volunteer for many local organizations in Halton Hills. He has worked extensively on the construction of homes in Halton Hills, as a volunteer with Habitat for Human- ity. As a member of Friends of Fairy Lake, he advocates for Acton's water source through annual clean ups. Jefferies also volunteers every year for the Terry Fox Run, helping to set up displays and registrations. As a mem- ber of Knox Presbyterian Church, he provides extensive time and expertise in renovating the church basement and kitchen. For many years, Jefferies and his wife Jean have been "foster parents" for the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guide program that trains dogs and matches them with people who have vi- sual and hearing impairments or other special needs. "Congratulations Bob for being rec- ognized as Halton Hills Senior of the Year, well deserved," said Mayor Rick Bonnette. Friday Night Dance returns on July 24 What a great way to celebrate Seniors' Month on Friday, June 26- T'ai Chi demonstration, Pickleball demo, hot dogs and hamburgers, potato salad, and coleslaw supplied by Hungry Hol- low Smokehouse through Links2Care, beautiful sunny day at Cedarvale Park. All you could have asked for. And for all of this we say a heartfelt thank you to the Staff of our Georgetown Centre. It seems everyone had such a great time at the our first Friday Night Dance in June that we are holding another on Friday, July 24, 7-10 p.m. They prom- ise a variety of music, door prizes, Spot dance, and 50/50 draw. Everyone is welcome but you will need to pur- chase a ticket at Reception. Cost is $5 per member, $7 non-member. The SALT presentation regarding Elder Abuse was well attended. There is a possibility to have this seminar re- peated in the fall. I have heard rave reviews from those taking part in the French Grand Pal program. They met their students in Midland and had a fantastic day. We have had another incident in the parking lot. Once more I encour- age you to be careful when parking your car. Please leave enough room for the persons on either side of you and park between the yellow lines. Drop-in programs continue throughout the summer months. There will be no Monday afternoon Bingo until September. Sandwich Tuesday and Thursday Soup are sus- pended until September. Pizza Fridays are still on-going. Movies continue on July 10 and 24 and Aug. 7 and 21. Our September trip to "Sweet Charity" appears to be very popular. Sign-up sheet for Oktoberfest is now out.
