Cameron Boyer, now 16, was walking home just before midnight on March 20, 2014 after an evening out with friends. Just a few doors down from his residence, Boyer noticed that a car was idling in the driveway with a man sitting in the driver's seat and a hose fixed from the exhaust pipe leading back into the in- side of the vehicle through one of the windows left slightly open. "I noticed that the car was running and as I kept walking I figured out what he was trying to do," Boyer recalled. "I was super nervous the whole time. I remem- ber nearly losing my shoe running home as quickly as I could because my cellphone battery died. A lot of people ask me why I didn't just pull the hose out or knocked on the guy's window, but I heard sto- ries before about people being prepared for that sort of stuff, so I thought it would be better to run home and call the police." Boyer's mother Linda was waiting up for her son and immediately called 9-1-1 when told of the suicide attempt and the dispatcher then spoke with Cameron to get some more details. An offi- cer visited the Boyer home a couple of hours later to inform them that Cameron's actions saved the man's life and that the victim had been taken to hospital for psychiatric assessment.
