"With respect to Brent to carry on as Fire Chief was made after due consideration," said the Mayor. "The Fire Department is very stable and yet a number of things are being implemented associated with the recently ap- proved Fire Master Plan. For example just today we announced to staff the appoint- ment of our new Assistant Deputy Fire Chief, Bruce Morrison. Bruce will be joining Deputy Harry Olivieri and Deputy John Martin with the management of the department. Bruce will fill the day to day management gap that would have been provided by Brent's presence. "This arrangement is similar to the way busi- ness has been done since Brent was appointed as Deputy CAO in December of last year. So it should be a smooth transition. In early 2016 a search for a new Fire Chief will be started," said Bonnette. Morrison will become Halton Hills Fire De- partment's first Assistant Deputy Chief, starting on Sept. 8. "Bruce has a long history with the Halton Hills Fire Department and is a life-long resi- dent of Halton Hills," said CAO/Fire Chief Brent Marshall. "He joined our part-time ranks as a firefighter in January 1998 and was promoted to Acting Captain in 2006, Captain in 2009 and most recently to Deputy District Chief." Morrison has also had a 35-year career in policing, working his way through the ranks to Staff Sgt. Marshall added, "His experience in manag- ing staff as both a Supervisor and Staff Sgt., will be a great asset in supporting the current Deputy Chiefs in day-to-day operational activities." Morrison is also a certified Community Emergency Planning Coordinator (CEMC) and in his police career held several supervi- sor/managerial positions with progressively increased responsibilities including as arson investigator and a member of the CBRN team (chemical, biological, radiologic and nuclear warfare). "On behalf of Members of Council and my- self, I would like to extend our congratulations to Bruce on his new appointment," said Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette. "Bruce's experienc- es in his past and current roles will make him a valuable addition to the fire department senior management team." Continued from page 1 BRUCE MORRISON
