Team Canada edged the U.S. 7-6 in the 10th inning of the gold medal matchup, a rematch of the 2011 Pan Am final played in Mexico in which the Canadians emerged victorious in a 2-1 decision. The 34-year-old Hill, a right-handed starting pitcher, made one appearance for the home side during the tournament and was superb in last Tuesday's 3-1 round-robin win over Cuba, in which the sinkerballer tossed six scoreless innings, al- lowing just three hits and a walk to the eventual bronze medalists. It was reported that Hill might start the gold-medal game, but manager Ernie Whitt opted for hard-throwing left-hander Jeff Francis. Above, Premier Kathleen Wynne congratulates Hill on the victory.
