Recently, the Honourable Leona Ag- lukkaq, Minister of the Environment, announced an independent review panel would be formed to determine the requirements of CN's environmental as- sessment (EA) for the proposed logistics hub. The decision was made after strong opposition from the public and aborigi- nal groups in relation to the potentially adverse environmental impacts of the project. A review panel will be established within five months from July 20 and will have 14 months to submit its report outlining the requirements of CN's sub- mission to the Canadian Environmen- tal Assessment Agency (CEAA). A deci- sion statement by the federal Minister is scheduled for five months after the panel submits its report. This timeline does not include the time it will take CN to complete the work required for the EA. If approved, the $250-million proj- ect, to be constructed by Tremaine Rd., Lower Base Line, Britannia Rd. and Hwy. 25, would operate 24/7 and see an additional two trains and 1,500 trucks to Milton per day.
