In June, Halton Hills council voted to hold the by-election, rath- er than an interview/appointment process, to ll the vacancy created by the death of longtime councillor Mike O'Leary in May. e seven candidates are Rob- ert Bedard, Geo Maltby-- who were Ward 1 candidates in the October 2014 election; former Chamber president Norm Paget and Waldo Paquete, who were also former municipal election candidates, Mike Albano, Terry Jackson, a former town councillor (1979-1982) and Sue Walker, busi- nesswoman and former Chamber manager. Based on the 2014 Voters' List there are 7,911 eligible voters in Ward 1. It will cost about $30,500 to hold the by-election rather than $10,000 for the appointment route. Town of Halton Hills local councillors are paid $29,995/year.
