YourHealth NEWS AND INFORMATION FROM GEORGETOWN HOSPITAL AUGUST 2015 www.haltonhealthcare.com GEORGETOWN • MILTON • OAKVILLE HOSPITALS The President's Cup raises over $50,000 Walk or run for Georgetown Hospital Halton Hills residents can access a wide-range of breast cancer services locally, from screening and assessment to surgical support. Halton Healthcare's Georgetown Hospital (GH) is an Ontario Breast Screening Program Assessment Centre which is supported by a Digital Mammography Unit. The Ontario Breast Screening Program is a province-wide breast cancer screening program managed by Cancer Care Ontario, that encourages early detection of breast cancer by screening women 50 years of age and over with routine mammograms every two years. "Every patient is carefully followed, tracked and supported from abnormal screening through to definitive diagnosis," notes Diane Sala, Manager, Diagnostic Imaging Department, Georgetown Hospital. "If required, ultrasound breast biopsies are routinely performed at Georgetown Hospital, with mammogram guided biopsy and advanced MRI guided breast biopsies available at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Women who are identified as requiring surgical intervention will be reassured to know that we have two surgeons at Georgetown Hospital who perform surgical breast biopsies - Dr. Lesley Barron and Dr. John Iskander." It is important that patients receive timely care in a familiar environment, where they can be surrounded by their support system. "We have been successfully providing a full range of breast cancer surgical interventions here at Georgetown Hospital for the past 15 years," explains Dr. John Iskander, GH Co-chief of Surgery. "The Department of Surgery always works closely with Diagnostic Imaging to ensure that highly suspicious cases are biopsied as soon as possible. This ensures that, in most cases, patients do not have to leave their community to access comprehensive diagnostic and surgical services."
