A 2015 pilot program, the Georgetown Farmers Market Food Share has been facilitat- ing donations between the market's farm ven- dors and the Georgetown Bread Basket since the beginning of July. Market Manager Sheena Switzer said, "This is an exciting new addition to the Georgetown Farmer's Market. As a community fixture that places such strong emphasis on the support of local farms and fresh food, it seemed like a logical next step for the market to facilitate the same availability for those who may not nor- mally be able to access fresh local food." At the end of the market day, staff from the Farmers Market collect produce from any ven- dors wishing to donate, then forward it to a rep- resentative from the Bread Basket. The donated food is destined for the 400 cli- ents that use the food bank on Sinclair Rd. on a regular basis. The distribution takes place on Tuesdays from 5-7 p.m. and again on Wednes- day morning if there is anything left over. From the Georgetown Bread Basket, "This is a wonderful opportunity for Georgetown Bread Basket clients as normally, they only get a fresh food box ONCE per month. These are also supplemented weekly with basics such as potatoes, apples, carrots, onions and other sea- sonal items."
