The annual "Project Safe Start" campaign runs from Monday, Aug. 31 to Friday, Sept. 11 with a focus on education, awareness and high-visibility enforcement of traffic laws in and around school zones. Officers will be using this multi-faceted approach to remind motorists to be espe- cially careful with regard to the increased pe- destrian and vehicular traffic in and around school zones and to pay attention to crossing guards. Police will be keeping an eye out for speeders, aggressive drivers, and the use of hand held devices while driving. Seatbelt compliance will also be strictly enforced. Frontline officers, District Response offi- cers, Education Services officers, High School Liaison officers as well as Senior Command officers will all be taking part in this campaign. Police said Halton residents have ranked traffic concerns as their top policing priority in surveys. The Halton Regional Police Service said they recognize this traffic concern and en- gage in various campaigns throughout the year in an effort to educate the public and en- force the Highway Traffic Act and other traffic related legislation.
