Can an Architect Help? There is a large public misunderstanding with respect to obtaining "Approvals" to proceed with a Building Project. "Approval" entails two distinct but related issues, "Land Use" and "Building Permit". A Client, may pursue answers to one issue but will not be aware of the other. "Land Use" issues deal with Zoning By-laws as set out by the Municipality and Planning Law as set out by the Municipality, the Region or the Province. This may also include meeting the requirements of Conservation Authorities, the Ministry of the Environment, and others. "Building Permit" issues, deal with "construction" (as defined under the "Ontario Building Code Act"). Building Permit issues deal with the Ontario Building Code, and the Ontario Fire Code, Electrical Safety Act, and other Acts and Construction Standards. A lot to know! Most Clients do not know the questions that need answers or who they should ask! An Architect can provide Clients with potential sources for answers as well as the implications on a Clients Property or Building Project. I would not advise utilizing "off the cuff" remarks regarding Permits from friends, Realtors or Contractors. Clients should consider utilizing the services of an Architect who can provide continuity on behalf of the Client through the Design, Approval and Implementation of the Project. Should a Minor Variance be required for a Project that may not meet Zoning Requirements, an Architect can assist with necessary Drawings, Applications and Hearings. Should Site Plan Review and Approval be necessary, an Architect can assist in assembling a Team of professionals including Planners, Site Engineering, Cost Control and Landscape Architecture. Architects can also assist Clients with obtaining other Permits as necessary for Conservation Authorities, MOE and others. Needless to say the Approvals process is complex and "Shark Invested Water". I advise caution and care - and allow for lots of time for the process to unfold! 16 Main Street South, Suite 201 (Georgetown), Halton Hills, Ontario, Canada L7G 3G5 Telephone: (905) 877-0739 Fax: (905) 877-0027 E-mail: eric-ecarch@cogeco.net ERIC CONNOLLY ARCHITECT Architecture Heritage Conservation Urban Design B.Arch, MOAA, MRAIC 905-873-7677 318 Guelph St., Georgetown Gerry Ross H.B.Sc. The Mustangs also advanced to the League Cup final a couple of weeks ago in Milton and had the undefeated and more-experienced Burlington Clash City side on its heels before giving up a last-minute goal in a 3-2 loss. One of the Georgetown club's strengths is a stingy defence fortified by the goalkeeping of local native Martin Omes, a Mount Allison grad who has recorded five shutouts. On offence, the team is led by Josh Sin- opoli's five goals, with three apiece from Liam Adamson and Joao Ngoma. "We don't score a lot of goals, which is something we can improve on by maybe get- ting another striker at some point," Brydie said. From pg. 33 over three innings in Ontario's opening 11-3 win against B.C., drove in three runs during the tourney and had four putouts as an out- fielder. He allowed just one unearned run in eight innings of work. The Tigers' season isn't over yet as they'll play in the OBA championships on the La- bour Day weekend in North York, where they'll be searching for their fourth consec- utive provincial championship as a group. Douglas said he'll join older brother Ja- cob next season in the lineup of London's Great Lake Canadians, who'll play in the newly formed Canadian Premier Baseball League beginning in the spring of 2016. CNE TOURNEY: It was one and done for both Halton Hills Eagles' peewee teams that entered this year's Canadian National Exhi- bition 32-team single-elimination tourna- ment this week in Toronto. The peewee AA Eagles committed four errors that resulted in five runs in their 8-6 loss to North York AAA, while the Tier II squad was on the short end of a 12-1 deci- sion against Royal York.
