On that date the Queen will surpass Victo- ria's reign, which lasted over 63 years or, more precisely, 23, 226 days 16 hours and 23 minutes. Celebrations to mark Queen Elizabeth's royal milestone will be held across the Commonwealth. The Town of Halton Hills, in partnership with the Halton Hills Public Li- brary and The Monarchist League of Canada, will join municipalities across Canada in celebrating this historic day. The public is warmly invited to attend a short ceremony in the Helson Gallery at the Halton Hills Cultural Centre & Library, 9 Church St. in Georgetown starting at 12 p.m. The ceremony will be presided over by Acting Mayor Councillor Ted Brown and will include music, a Royal historical display, Co- lour Parties from the Georgetown and Acton Royal Canadian Legions, RCMP from the Milton detachment and oth- er community leaders. Light refreshments will follow. All residents are welcome to come and enjoy this hap- py celebration. Later that day Governor General David Johnston will unveil a Canadian com- memorative stamp and coin at Rideau Hall in Ottawa to mark the occasion. Canadi- an Forces chapels and other churches across Canada will ring their bells at noon in recognition of Queen Eliza- beth II becoming our longest reigning sov- ereign.
