Where else can you see farm animals up close, experience our agriculture past, present and future? Georgetown Fall Fair runs Sept. 11-13 and the Acton Fall Fair is on Sept. 18- 20. **** The Town was pleased to recently announce that it is installing new, ef- ficient LED streetlights throughout our community. The benefits of these new lights are many and support the Mayor's Community Ener- gy Plan that was approved by Council earlier this year. One of the main ob- jectives of the plan is to reduce our overall energy consumption. Converting the Town's streetlights to LED tech- nology will make a signifi- cant contribution to meet- ing this objective. The Town's exist- ing streetlight system is charged based on kilowatt consumption used. Once the Town converts the exist- ing streetlight lights to LEDs the overall energy consumption will be reduced by approximately 55 per cent. The ad- vanced quality design for LED lumi- naires has reduced the capital costs significantly. In addition, these lights deliver lon- ger life expectancy and coupled with the energy savings, make the conver- sion of existing streetlights to LED fi- nancially feasible and is good for the environment. To maximize the overall savings, including incentives offered through the provincial government, the project will be completed as quickly as pos- sible. We expect the conversion will take nine months to complete and the payback period will be approximately five years. **** Last year we unearthed our time capsule which was buried 25 years ago when the Civic Centre was built. On Aug. 27 we will be re-burying the time capsule. News of the day, special projects as well as the original items will be placed back in the time capsule for another 25 years. **** Remember the Terry Fox Run on Sept. 20 at Ac- ton High School and the Gellert Centre. **** The 2015 byelection for Ward 1 will be offer- ing advance voting loca- tions at the following lo- cations: • Saturday, Sept. 12 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Acton Legion or Acton Arena • Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Acton Legion or Acton Arena. Top right, the original church built in 1867, and dismantled in 1887 and rebuilt as a house at the entrance to the Fairgrounds Park. Top left the present day church, erected in 1887; this photo was taken in 1908. Note the gas lamp in front of the church. Bottom right, the church as it is today. --Heritage Halton Hills
