If you're 12 years or older, and want to meet new friends and try something new, then we have just the thing for you! By join- ing the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, you are saying YES to fun activities and excit- ing challenges, supervised by trained adult leaders. What do Air Cadets do? • Gliding and Power familiarization flights • Learn all about aviation and aeronau- tics • Team sports and activities • Band and music programs • Effective Speaking and debate skills • Leadership training • Orienteering • First-aid and Survival training • Summer camps • International trips • Flying Scholarship program • Marksmanship training You will participate in these activities during the weekly meetings and on the weekends. You will also support your com- munity by taking part in citizenship events organized by the cadet squadron, such as Remembrance Day Parades, Santa Claus Parade, and Poppy Sales to support the Roy- al Canadian Legion. Many of these activi- ties count towards your community service hours too. It all happens in a fun, friendly, safe environment that will motivate you to give your best. The Air Cadet Program is jointly funded by the Department of National Defence, in partnership with the civilian run Air Cadet League of Canada (ACL). There is a nominal annual fee of $50, payable to the ACL. The civilian sponsor (ACL) requires local com- munity support to meet its obligations that include accommodations, training aids and equipment and program enhancements not otherwise provided. Parents and cadets are encouraged to participate in and contribute to fundraising as required by the Squadron Sponsorship Committee. The skills you develop at Cadets will benefit you with your schoolwork. You'll be more organized, you'll be better able to focus, better manage time and tasks, and you'll learn to work in, and lead, a team. As well as make new friends that go to your school. Recruit Night is Monday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m., and the Squadron meets at the J.R. Barber Armouries, 91 Todd Rd. in George- town. Normal parade nights are Mondays, 6:30-9 p.m. Drop in and check us out! BECOME AN ARMY CADET RECRUIT NIGHT SEPT. 16, 23 The recruiting open house for the 676 Lorne Scots Army Cadets wil be held Sept. 16 and 2, 7-9 p.m. and is open to all young men and women, ages 12-18 and their par- ents. Army Cadets is a free program for pro- viding the opportunity to test your limits through participation in challenging and exciting activities. Army Cadets is the old- est and one of the largest youth programs in Canada with a focus on outdoor adventure activities. Based out of The Colonel John Roaf Bar- ber, ED. CD.
