ENTERTAINMENT Though January marks the 'new year' on our calendars, it is September, as the sum- mer leaves us and the school year starts, that most of us feel the beginnings of the new year. Artistic organizations are no excep- tion. So, as this new 'year' begins I would like to introduce 'The 2015-16 Season of the Georgetown Bach Chorale'. The season begins with a chamber con- cert in late October with cellist Mary Kath- erine Finch, Toronto Symphony clarinetist Joseph Orlowski and pianist Ron Greidanus playing Trios of Brahms and Beethoven. In November, the Chorale will sing Bach Advent Cantatas, with Greidanus and Mat- thew Pope performing Bach's Double Con- certo in C Minor for 2 harpsichords and Or- chestra. As usual the weekend before Christmas the choir presents the very popular Christ- mas House Concerts-- this year swinging to Christmas jazz standards accompanied by stand-up bass and jazz piano. If the music is not enough to convince you then add the stellar decor and scrumptious delicacies fol- lowing the performances! For the 'Real New Year' -- on the last Sun- day in January Greidanus will perform Rach- maninoff's rarely heard Chopin Variations. February's 'Chiaroscuro' concert, per- formed in the visually and acoustically beautiful Helson Gallery, will feature roman- tic music of Schubert, Reger, Brahms, and Rachmaninoff. 'Music for Good Friday' showcases beau- tiful solemn masterpieces sung by the choir and accompanied by Baroque cellist Finch. And the season's finale? Friesian violin- ist Edwin Huizinga with his highly energized performance of Vivaldi's Four Seasons. And, the Choir and Baroque Chamber Orchestra will together raise their marvellous 'voices' in Handel's Zadok the Priest and other joy- ous choruses of J. S. Bach. Tickets can be purchased at Foodstuffs in Downtown Georgetown, 905-877-6569; Pat's Meats and Deli in Georgetown South or at the Holland Shop in Acton. They can also be purchased online at www.georgetown- bachchorale.com. For more information, please call 905-873-9909.
