Increased traffic volume along this corridor reinforces the need to consider improvements. This study will assess current and future transportation demand and develop and evaluate suitable alternative solutions to safely and efficiently accommodate traffic along this corridor. Alternative solutions that may be considered include Glen Lawson Road / Third Line intersection improvements and/or new alignments from the Acton Urban Boundary to Fourth Line. STUDY PROCESS The Town of Halton Hills has identified the need to undertake a Schedule C Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) study, as outlined in the Municipal Engineers Association MCEA (October 2000, as amended in 2007 and 2011). The study process will include the development and evaluation of suitable alternative solutions. Following this, a preferred solution will be selected to safely and efficiently accommodate various modes of transportation along the Glen Lawson Road / Third Line corridor. PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE External agency and public consultation is a key component of the study. You are invited to attend a Public Information Centre (PIC), at which background information, problem/opportunity statement, alternative solutions, and evaluation criteria will be presented. The PIC will consist of an open house drop-in centre where you will be able to converse with members of the Project Team and share your concerns and opinions. Details of this event are provided as follows: Date: Thursday, October 15, 2015 Time: 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Notice of Public Information Centre haltonhills.ca haltonhills. Kelly Amos of the two-hour picket. In an email Wednesday morning, Amos said trustees had a committee meeting at the board office that started at 6 p.m. She did not offer a comment on the planned picketing by ETFO. ETFO is the only main teaching group in Ontario without a new con- tract following the recent ratifications of new deals with the province by pub- lic high school, Catholic elementary and secondary, and French-language teachers. ETFO has been without a contract since Aug. 31, 2014. The union represents 78,000 public elementary and occasional teachers across Ontario. In Halton, it represents close to 2,900 teachers, serving almost 40,000 pupils. Sam Hammond, the provincial president of ETFO, said last week that teachers will begin rotating, one-day strikes in October unless the govern- ment and school boards return to the bargaining table and progress is made. A Halton board negotiator said they'll handle that situation if it comes to that. "In the event of a strike being called that affects HDSB schools, we would meet with our local union reps to dis- cuss protocols to manage this job ac- tion," Jeff Blackwell said. Hammond said his union won't accept what he calls Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne's "cookie-cutter ap- proach" to teachers' contracts saying elementary teachers' working condi- tions are different than those of their high school counterparts. Late Tuesday afternoon, the gov- ernment announced it would resume talks with the elementary teachers. "We learned at 5 p.m. today that (Education) Minister (Liz) Sandals has called upon ETFO to return to the bargaining table. ETFO has been ready to return to the table for two weeks to bargain a fair and reasonable collec- tive agreement specific to ETFO mem- bers," said Hammond. "We accept this invitation and we look to the minister to confirm where and when negotiations will resume." Sandals' offer to resume bargaining came four hours after ETFO had filed an unfair labour practice complaint with the Ontario Labour Relations Board over what ETFO says was the re- fusal of the government and OPSBA to "bargain in good faith." Meanwhile, elementary teachers are in the midst of job sanctions. Macfarlane said negotiations with the local school board reps, on non- monetary issues, have been going well, an observation echoed by board negotiator Blackwell. "ETFO local negotiations occurred yesterday (Tuesday) with productive talks, with five more dates scheduled," he said. EFTO/Province to return to talks; local talks going well Continued from page 3
