If caught early most usually most don't have any serious long- term effects. I was not one. I travelled the Ontario health care system for a year seeing many doctors, specialists, MRIs, cat scans, bloodwork and yes, even a Lyme test with a nega- tive result. Without a conclusive diagnosis. I even agreed to see a psychiatrist; I didn't think it could be possible to be this sick without a diagnosis. He sent me back to doctor for more tests. My doctor stated he had given me all tests and nothing more he could do. With my health still declining I went to na- turopath and Lyme disease was confirmed. I have had to travel out of country to United States for treatment costing thousands. I have regained about 80 per cent of my health. Thinking big I went into training last win- ter at the local gym with a plan to cycle from Queen's Park to Ottawa this past summer to promote awareness about Lyme disease. However just a couple of months into my training, my leg muscles were not as convinced as I that this was doable. I mentioned to my per- sonal trainer Adam Andrews of Staying Alive Fitness in Acton about how disap- pointed I was, and he suggested holding a Zumbathon For Lyme disease event. A very special group of Zumba instructors of Halton have donated their time for this awareness event and fundraiser. It's being held on Saturday, Oct. 3 by Lyme sufferers of Halton at the Dufferin Rural Heritage Com- munity Centre in Prospect Park, 30 Park Ave., in Acton. Doors open at noon and the party is from 1-4 p.m. Entry is $15 at door. All proceeds will go to Canadian Lyme Dis- ease Foundation. If you cannot attend, join Facebook Community page Zumbathon for Lyme. PayPal is up and awaiting donations. Thanks to all supporters and patrons for gener- ous donations.
