Many people avoid drawing attention to their hearing loss by having fewer social contacts when it becomes difficult understanding what is being said. The result is an altered and lonely existence that family and friends may mistake for dementia. Learning new strategies to cope with hearing loss could go a long way to restoring confidence and improving communication. The Hearing Clinic recommends the following: Inform people of the hearing loss so they may modify their speech; eliminate background noise; watch the speaker carefully and sharpen natural lip-reading abilities; ask the speaker to repeat what was said if necessary, and above all else; have your hearing thoroughly tested and properly fit with one of today's modern hearing instruments. Contact The Hearing Clinic if you or someone you know needs assistance. Geraldine Barnes Town tourism website earns Canadian marketing award Town of Halton Hills has received the Economic Developers Association of Canada's (EDAC) "Marketing Can- ada" award for best website-- Vis- ithaltonhills.ca-- and the marketing campaign that supported its launch. In partnership with the local Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Halton Hills developed the new website that is dedicated to tourism in Halton Hills. The new design was created to celebrate the local com- munity. The website incorporates the community brand and invites visitors to "find their smile" in Halton Hills. Its design was also inspired following a review of some of the top-rated des- tination and tourism websites. Visithaltonhills.ca was launched at the July 6 Council meeting. The award was presented to Town representative Danielle Edwards, Economic Development Coordina- tor, during the Association's 47th Na- tional Conference on Sept. 22. "Council is extremely thrilled that the tourism website has been rec- ognized by EDAC for this national award. We invite you to visit Halton Hills to find your smile," said Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette. The Economic Development As- sociation of Canada is Canada's na- tional association of economic devel- opment professionals, representing every province and territories across Canada. The awards program attracts submissions from across Canada and an outside adjudication committee reviews the submissions and selects the winners.
