See pg. 8 Public high school teachers reach tenative local deal By Tim Whitnell Metroland Media Group The Halton District School Board and its high school teachers have reached a tentative local contract agreement. The local deal between the public board and members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Fed- eration (OSSTF), District 20 Halton, came after a 22-hour bargaining ses- sion last week, said Jeff Blackwell, the board's chief negotiator. "We are very pleased there is a tentative deal with our secondary teachers…. Although the deal is yet to be ratified by the members of local OSSTF and the HDSB board of trust- ees, we are pleased that the many hours of talks have resulted in this deal," said new HDSB Education Di- rector Stuart Miller. The head of the Halton public high school teachers union also was pleased with the outcome. "The union and board took the negotiations seriously and achieved a deal that was good for Halton second- ary teachers and public education in Halton. OSSTF District 20 Teachers and the Halton District School Board continue to maintain positive labour relations," said Brad Fisher, president of OSSTF District 20.
