The re-built concrete playground offers a skate park with an additional bowl feature, as well as a new full- sized all-season sport court. The facility was relocated to make way for the Acton Arena and Com- munity Centre expansion that was restricted by environmental fea- ture setbacks and the policies of the Greenbelt Plan. The Three Musketears Park was built in memory of Mark Everson, Travis Toth and Rory Dick, three local youths who died tragically in Septem- ber 2000. Ongoing fundraising efforts by the Three Musketears Memorial Golf Tournament committee led by Kathy Everson provided an additional $40,000 to the project. A sport court suitable for full court basketball, road hockey and natural ice skating in the winter is the result of their fundraising done to commemo- rate local youth Raymond Getty, who died New Year's Eve 2003. "I'm very proud of the commu- nity's support throughout this entire process" said Mayor Rick Bonnette. "There were concerns in the initial stages of the facility design that we would not be able to complete the construction of a new facility as part of the Acton Arena & Community Centre project. I'm pleased that we have worked with our local youth and community partners to design and build this beautiful new facility." Warren Harris, Interim Commis- sioner of Corporate and Community Services, served as master of ceremo- nies for the event that included local vendors and music by local youth. "This has been a great opportunity to improve facilities for our youth and the partnership with the Three Mus- ketears representatives makes it even more meaningful," he said. Work continues on the Acton Are- na and Community Centre expansion with the new ice pad expected to be open in late November this year and the official opening in January 2016.
