BUSINESS OCTOBER BUSINESS OF THE MONTH: Marnie Hughes (left), chair of the Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce's board of directors, presents the Business of the Month award to Georgetown's VPI Inc. The workforce manage- ment services firm is represented above by (from left) job placement specialist Ashley Gerber, branch co-ordi- nator Monica Franklin and job placement specialist Jimmy Mangos. Located at 235 Guelph St. in Georgetown be- side the Food Basics grocery store, the Mississauga-based company works hand in hand with employers to help connect those looking for jobs with someone who's hiring. Georgetown's VPI branch opened in the spring of 2006 and currently has eight full-time employees. Among the services VPI Work Solutions provides include organiz- ing job fairs and employee selection consultation for employers. On Oct. 1, VPI launched a new program called Youth Job Connection, which is designed to provide support to those aged 15-29 who are unemployed or not in school full time. Youths receive payment to attend pre-employment training workshops and then are hopefully soon placed in full-time jobs. VPI is funded by the provincial government through the Ministry of Training, Col- leges and Universities and Employment Ontario and its services are available at no cost to both the employers and those looking for work.
