GEORGETOWN NEWS Volunteers are being sought to take part in a bi- annual yard cleanup of homes in Halton Hills for people who are unable to maintain their property because of age, physical restrictions or health-re- lated issues. Each spring and fall, dozens of volunteers are mobilized for these cleanups and the fall edition of the event takes place on the morning of Saturday, Nov. 7. Organized by Community Unity, an initiative by the Georgetown Ministerial Association, the cleanups have been happening since 2008. High school students can also be credited for their volunteer honours by taking part. Last year, approximately 200 volunteers helped 72 homeowners facing varying circumstances, in- cluding 20 homes from Cancer Assistance Services Halton Hills, four from Community Living North Halton, 13 Links2Care and 35 homes referred by the Town of Halton Hills, churches or people in the community. Anyone is welcome to volunteer. You can meet at Georgetown Christian Reformed Church, locat- ed at 11611 Trafalgar Rd. at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 7 for the assignment of work teams. People are needed to rake, prune bushes, hold open leaf bags and visit with homeowners. They are asked to bring garden rakes, clippers, garden gloves or other small gar- den tools. This year, Canadian Tire, Home Hardware and The Home Depot have donated bags to use during the cleanup. A barbecue will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church following the cleanup.
